About Anna Burkey

I'm Anna Burkey, a creative leader with a passion for culture, stories, reading and learning. Hailing from Scotland, where I was on the founding team of Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature, I currently live in Melbourne/Naarm in Australia. After eight years in senior leadership roles with State Library Victoria, establishing StartSpace and leading the Centre for Youth Literature, I'm working with the Australian Publishers Association. With founding partners at ALIA, the Australian Society of Authors and the Australian Booksellers Association, we're working to grow Australia Reads - a national not-for-profit supporting engagement with reading.Australia Reads is on a mission to get more people reading more books, more often - because reading has the power to change our lives.____________________________________________I’ve been described by CEOs and Boards I’ve worked with as resourceful, inspiring and driven. My international career path demonstrates commitment to strategic engagement that puts the audience at the heart; I believe that bringing creative people together around a clear vision and story makes for success. A mix of big ideals and a pragmatic approach, I'm a problem-solver at heart. With an MA (Hons) in Literature from the University of Edinburgh, and graduate certificates from the AMA (Arts Marketing Assoc) Executive Retreat and Victorian Shared Leadership programs, I have strong academic and leadership qualifications. I have a collaborative work style, with a fondness for deadlines and statistics, a love of history and curiosity and a well-developed sense of humour.
