UNFPA's mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. To achieve this, UNFPA works towards realising three transformative results:- Ending unmet need for family planning- Ending preventable maternal death- Ending gender-based violence and harmful practicesDuring this consultancy, I focused on implementing and monitoring UNFPA The Gambia's Communications Strategy. I engaged in knowledge transfer by sharing my expertise with the existing communications unit. In addition, I supported the communications team to increase visibility of UNFPA's work through stakeholder advocacy and community outreach activities. I provided advice to the Representative and the team on all aspects of advocacy, information, and communications of the country programme. I used my creative content skills in writing, copyediting, design, website publishing and photography. Specific activities included (but are not limited to):- Strategic recommendations- Media relations- Digital and print content creation and management- Conceptualising advocacy campaigns and public information events- Development of knowledge products for UNFPA The Gambia- Training UNFPA The Gambia's implementing partners in communication skills.

I launched Motherdom, which is a media platform dedicated to maternal mental health and wellbeing. Inspired by my own experiences of maternal mental ill-health, Motherdom's vision is to create a world of happier parents. I sold the company in 2021 in order to focus on working in Gambia.

This was a new role within the organisation. My main priorities included: - Expanding Kidscape's external communications activities - Developing a communications strategy- Developing key audience engagement

I built a communications team in an organisation that didn’t have one at all when I joined. My major project was launching a new magazine ‘Stories For Jimmy’, which I wrote and edited (both online and in print). I also led a rebrand which included changing the charity’s name, a completely new visual identity and launching a new website. I managed all social media content (including photography, audio and video), as well as all marketing and fundraising material. I dealt with all media requests and generated coverage for key events and campaigns. I wrote monthly email storyboards to our stakeholders and supporters. I also led on internal communications – encouraging the team to join the dots and work better together to achieve For Jimmy’s mission of making young people safer.

I worked as a Broadcast Production Journalist at BBC World Service News (radio) and BBC World News (TV). I worked for live interactive programmes that blended broadcast with digital - focusing on social media interactions with the audience. I was the lead producer for many news programmes around the world, including travelling to Norway and the US. I produced two radio documentaries, one of which, ‘Sharing It All’, received national press coverage from The Spectator.

I worked as a Topical Researcher/ Journalist on the second series of a prime time news and entertainment programme on ITV1 with Adrian Chiles. I was the resident broadcast journalist working as part of a small editorial team. My duties included guest producing and keeping across all UK and global news sources to help determine the agenda for the show.

I worked as a freelance producer after completing a three-week work experience placement. My duties included producing packages, writing scripts and teases, cutting picture, producing the press preview, briefing presenters and fixing guests – from Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies to the International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell.
