As an analyst for the High Pressure Pipeline Database (HPPD) Compliance and Analysis group I:• Analyzed and updated the HCA (High Consequence Areas) and Class Location Unit segments as described in Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) title 49 part 192 subpart O.• Researched changes to HCA and Class Location segments and investigated their validity, stationing, attribution and placement.• Provided cartographic products/mapping support (either paper or digital maps) and spreadsheet reports related to HCA/Class location questions from various departments in the company, San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) and California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). • Imported and exported a variety of data from and to the GIS environment including: DEM, KMZ/KML, spreadsheets, dBase, vector data, GEO Tiff and JPEG.• Obtained a good understanding of the fundamentals of creating and maintaining a GIS-based network of high pressure pipelines, including: horizontal, vertical, engineer and cumulative stationing; station equations; and other gas-related feature classes.• Created simple scripts and queries using Python, SQL, ArcMap Query Builder and Model Builder.• Wrote procedure documents for several HCA group processes and assist in training new team members by providing presentations and technical information about the group’s processes.• Tested new software and geospatial ArcMap extensions and provided IT staff with detailed feedback which led to the development and implementation of a new process.• Interpreted and researched engineer drawings and CAD files, including as-built drawings, completion sketches, atlas sheets and strip maps.• Used remote sensing to ensure accurate position of pipelines in the database including: high resolution satellite imagery, street-view imagery, and above ground gas markers. • Participated in bimonthly GIS meetings, sharing information and feedback with colleagues and supervisors.

Arid Lands Institute's long term goal is to identify and implement appropriate recapture and control techniques for slowing erosion and deposition processes within ephemeral stream systems in the arid West. My only colleague assisted me in development of ArcGIS processes dedicated to environmental modeling and simulations of storm water behavior. Using national weather data downloaded from the internet and GIS we completed our project by:• Managing data in a GIS database • Performing spatial analysis using vector or raster data• Creating models to efficiently manipulate data• Executing data conversion: such as Excel into shapefiles or feature classes and vector to raster/raster to vector• Using GIS animation tools and sketching software to further visualize GIS analysis of storm water

The LADWP “Partnership for Tomorrow” offers an internship program and learning pathways (industry tours, job shadowing opportunities, workshops, etc.) to encourage students in high school as well as higher education institutions to explore STEM-based careers, specifically in the utility sector. The pilot program at CSUN is focused on GIS/geospatial technology.
