6connect is a venture capital funded startup that builds a SaaS orchestration and automation platform for IP address management, DNS management, and physical asset management.I was recruited by the co-founders as the first engineering hire to build an engineering team and mature a prototype into a market-ready product.- Hired, led, and scaled the software engineering and DevOps teams with global members.- Communicated continually with customers on product feedback to understand what customers would pay for and guide the product roadmap.- Contributed to system and software architecture and created core algorithms and intellectual property.

PacketFabric is the first Network as a Service startup, providing WAN, hybrid cloud, multicloud, and Internet connectivity that could be purchased, managed, and operated via a UI or API.I co-developed the technical concept for NaaS with the other co-founder, creating NaaS which has grown to a $14B industry. I served as the internal and external face of the company during leadership changes in the co-founding team, and provided oversight for product development, automation, and GTM strategy.- Built and led a team of 150 staff that included network engineers, NREs, SREs, software engineers, product managers, product owners, and customer service professionals.- Defined and executed product strategy that resulted in growth from $0 to $100M ARR.- Played key roles in architecting the core platform advocating internally for the customer and evangelizing the platform externally. Guided the company to achieve multiple industry awards and recognition, including the PTC Innovation Award, Capacity Media’s SDN Market Disruptor, Gartner Cool Vendor, and CRN’s 10 Hottest Networking Startups.

Terremark was a publicly traded multi-tenant data center builder and operator (acquired by Verizon in 2011 for $1.4B). - Managed three direct reports with full P&L responsibility as a report to the CTO. Focused on investigating M&A opportunities in the cybersecurity space to drive growth in security revenue by layering security services on existing customer base. - Guided delivery of a product portfolio of three standardized services for IDS, IPS, and DPI threat detection, all with 24x7 SOC monitoring and a customer portal for customers to view real time security alerts.- The products provided sales teams with a simple value proposition for selling into a massive, underserved customer base (<1% were purchasing security services at the time).- Led the development of a security customer portal integrating threat alert feeds from multiple vendors, IDS/IPS alerts, and DPI statistics. - Trained sales teams in upselling into their existing colocation customer base, transforming a product line with negative margin to profitability by scaling revenue >300%.- Lead multiple M&A due diligence activities, including technical due diligence and financial modeling.

Prolexic was the first DDoS mitigation provider (acquired by Akamai in 2014 for $370M).Partnered with three co-founders to launch a first of its kind DDoS mitigation provider that spawned a $4.1B industry.- Built and managed a 15-member team that included software engineering, customer service, and SOC.- Designed and coded company core intellectual property for HTTP attack mitigation, internal network automation tools, peering automation, attack visibility tools, and the customer-facing portal in C/PHP/Perl/Javascript. - Forked and created custom versions of popular open-source repositories such as Squid, tinyDNS, and Cacti modifying code to meet our use cases.- Worked extensively on FreeBSD TCP kernel tuning to better handle a variety of protocol attacks.- Efforts resulted in the company becoming cash flow positive within two years with a healthy customer base.

Tower Records was a billion dollar international retail franchise and online music store.I was part of a small group of sotware designers, software engineerings, and database administrators who were responsibile for highest revenue grossing and revenue growth department of the company - the website.- Conceived and coded the Wish List feature allowing customers to save named lists of products for future purchase. Responsible for an additional 2% of revenue during it's first Christmas season.- Primary maintainer for checkout process and code which included credit card verification, processing, and working closely with the fraud team..- Responsible for code maintenance and feature adds of over 7M MP3 song sample clips.

Created a software consultancy group with another software engineer co-founder that worked across a variety of industries to build web-based applications. I was responsible for new client acquisition, project scoping/management, and coding software functionality.- Built a HIPAA compliant Medi-Cal billing program in C/PHP responsible for all Medi-Cal claims across a large chain of assisted living facilities. The software is still in use as of 2024. - Designed and built a web based project management and client engagement service for a regional builder specializing in indoor/outdoor spaces.- Designed and built several LAMP based e-commerce sites across a variety of industries ranging road sign fabrication to ski apparel to record labels.

Placer Sierra Bank was a regional bank operating 32 branches throughout northern California.Even though formally title as a Network Engineer, I was responsible for a wide variety of tasks across IT including some coding, PBX management, and PC troubleshooting in addition to my standard network engineering responsibilities.- Performed cost savings consolidation and optimization of frame relay, ISDN, and T1 lines across all branches and the corporate headquarters reducing annual spend by 20%.- Created web based online help documentation for common IT issues with HTML and Microsoft Access.- Assisted in Y2K planning and upgrades on legacy systems which resulted in a seamless, zero downtime transition.
