Under the direction of the Australian Government and Coalition of Australian Government: Education Council, the work AITSL does helps shape significant educational reforms across Australia. In my role, I provide policy, strategic positioning and research advice into the development and implementation of AITSL's projects and engagement with external stakeholders.My key responsibilities include:• Advising senior executives on the implantation of AITSL's Work Plan and influencing teams in their approach to delivery the Work Plan.• Representing AITSL at external events and advisory groups, to support AITSL’s engagement with stakeholder.• Coordinating AITSL's engagement with the Coalition of Australian Government: Education Ministers Meeting, and advisory groups.• Identifying opportunities to support the delivery of AITSL’s work and team cohesion, in the remote work environment.• Providing intermediary strategic advice and guidance to personnel across AITSL, on matters pertaining to the delivery of AITSL's work.• Reviewing and providing feedback on high level communications and correspondence, including executive and board papers, briefings and reports.

VAEAI is the Victorian State Governments principal partner in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education in Victoria. In my role, I led the policy and strategy team in understanding of emerging public and social issues, and use the communities voice, to develop consistent, innovative and sustained approaches to improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.My key responsibilities included:• Leading system and policy reviews, which advised on the development of policy changes, to enable strategies to achieve objectives, and importantly, educational change for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners. • Developing and harnessing relationships with community members and leaders, to inform my strategic advice internal to VAEAI and external at regional, state and national level.• Monitoring the state and national political landscape, for matters pertaining to education and Aboriginal affairs, and initiating action to ensure the community was effectively heard and represented, at all levels of government.• Developing the strategic direction of the organisation, which extended to identifying long and short-term priorities.• Managing a multi-faceted team to deliver high quality outputs, all the while supporting their professional endeavours. • Cultivating new and existing stakeholder relationships with peak state and national education bodies, leading to a more cohesive approach to advancing the skills of teachers and their engagement of Aboriginal students in learning.• Facilitating a review of the community-based governance model, to enable the implementation of effective mechanisms to capture and promote the needs and place based strategies of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.• Developing proposals, responses and feedback on varying written communications, which the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community voice was appropriately reflected.

Galiwin'Ku, Elcho Island

In returning to Shepherdson College, on Elcho Island, I was able to use my new knowledge of the wider education landscape to inform my practise and support the enhancement of existing and the establishment of new programs, which were focused on a community approach to supporting students on their learning journey.My key responsibilities included:• Leading the cohort of early years teachers, to build effective practise, cohesion in approach and support across the team.• Designing and implementing a community driven, school-wide literacy program, to prioritise reading and writing in the community, and achieve tangible and lasting change.• Developing and implementing an early year’s literacy learning sequence, to ensure a consistent approach to teaching and that each student, no matter what stage of learning, knew where they were at and progressed in their reading and writing journey.• Alongside my Assistant Teacher, developing and delivering integrated learning experiences for students, which ensure each student was able to build their skills and apply to various means and problem-solving situations.• Continuing to prioritise learning and understanding the Yolngu (Indigenous) culture, to enable me to be an active member of the community and effectively understand my student’s needs.

In my role as a Senior Project and Policy Coordinator, at the Department of Education (the Department), I was an integral member of the small project team that managed the Department, throughout the IBAC (Independent Broad-Based Anti-Corruption Commission) public hearings, into alleged corruption within the Department. Subsequent to this, I coordinated aspects of the Integrity Reform Program, to improve the operations and enhance the operational integrity needs of the Department.My key responsibilities included:• Facilitating daily Departmental leadership meetings to advise of matters raised in the public hearing and recommendations for any immediate actions which arose.• Undertaking gap analysis’s of various operational processes to identify business issues and their root causes, and together with program areas, recommend business solutions to deliver targeted business outcomes and measurable improvements.• Managing internal and external stakeholders, to ensure high priority deliverables are managed within tight time frames.• Working closely with business areas and project sponsors to ensure they were effectively informed of matters and confident in the positioning of the Department throughout the public hearings.• Developing and maintaining all project planning documents, including communication plan, to support the project teams deliver a successful outcome for the Department.• Preparing high quality and comprehensive briefs, recommendations and reporting advice to the Executive Board and Ministers, to enable effective decision making.• Liaising with program areas to ensure strategic alignment with the Governments Education State agenda.• Identifying and documenting project risks and issues, and developing effective management and monitoring strategies of these.

Galiwin'Ku, Elcho Island

My teaching practice saw me move to the remote Indigenous community of Galiwin’ku, on Elcho Island, in the Northern Territory, to teach at Shepherdson College. Teaching in this unique environment had not only profound effects on my teacher experience, but also on me as a person. My key responsibilities included:• Co-designing and delivering lessons and extensive units of work, with my Yolngu (Indigenous) Assistant Teacher, which were engaging, adaptable to the array of learning levels of the students and consistent with the Australian Curriculum.• Supporting my Yolngu Assistant Teacher and Yolngu Tutor to empower the development of their teaching skills, with the aim of them working towards becoming qualified teachers. • Fostering and continually working on maintaining positive relationships with each child and their families, to ensure I knew where each student was at with their learning, and so they felt supported. • Integrating into the community, which enabled me to learn the local language of Yolngu Matha (English is not widely spoken, including at school) and develop a deep understanding of Yolngu culture and history. • Modelling effective communication methods and behaviour strategies, with the aim of encouraging children to also use these in interactions with each other in the classroom, playground and at home.• Collaborating with colleagues, to ensure consistency of learning content and teaching strategies across the school.

Working at the one of the most progressive vertical retail companies in the world, as a Trainee Buyer/Product Developer, I was able to continue build on the company’s already solid foundation to grow the womenswear category I managed. Through understanding our customers, how they shopped and their buying patterns, I was able to expand on the number of product lines, develop a more diverse range of product and enable the growth of new stores.
