About Anna Deese
In short: Military, consulting, teaching, consulting, teaching, educational consulting, school board trustee, student-teacher supervision. BS in Biology, M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, and lots and lots of reading. Currently working on a PhD in Education Policy with a focus on school governance/school boards and the influence of democracy on education, managerialism in education, and school finance--all with an eye to equity. I have been on a school finance research project for almost five years with the National Education Policy Center, taught leadership to undergraduates, and supervise student teachers in the elementary education program. My dissertation explores how differences between the race and ethnicity of students in a school district and the race and ethnicity of voters who get to influence that school district might manifest across a variety of outcomes (academic achievement, school funding) and how various policy decisions (like managing the size of the district, allowing charter schools, etc.) might ameliorate the racial and ethnic composition differences. I am a brain tumor (acoustic neuroma) survivor and, as a result, suffer from permanent facial paralysis.
