In this position, I led curricula-based programs in local schools, created materials and adapted programs to fit the new state science standards for 2020, and provided general park maintenance and support.

Through CFI, I completed a 3-month apprenticeship to become a naturalist guide. I wrote and taught science-based lesson plans about the desert environment, human history, and outdoor living. I paddle-captained and rowed class II and III sections of the Colorado River and San Juan River. I led day and overnight camps and prepared meals for 40+ participants. I also drove a variety of vehicles to transport students, boats, and gear.

In this position, I developed lesson plans for school-aged children around inquiry learning and state standards and led programs that introduced children to the science of nature through structured and semi-structured outdoor experiences. I collaborated with fellow environmental educators, teachers, and community members to provide programs for kids both on our property and at after school programs. I also assisted in overseeing volunteers and managing social media.

In this position, I led 5-6 interpretive hikes per week for YMCA guests and visitors. I also provided unique experiences through other family programs including llama hikes, wildflower hikes, astronomy talks, walking stick making, archery, and rec center activities. When I was not leading hikes or family programming, I worked at the front desk handling guest sign-up and payment for programs.

I interacted with guests of various ages and backgrounds through community events, guided hikes, and trail encounters, created and led children’s programs and hikes, and created displays for the 2 nature centers. I also engaged the community through social media and hiked 3-8 miles daily.
