My main role In this position was to lead any shifts I was on, manage the staff, and handle any problems or situations that arose. Aside from supervising on shifts, I was primarily responsible for handling money and budgeting for the individuals in the group home and other house expenses. I also worked on scheduling, training new employees, and physical plant needs, among many other responsibilities.

As a Community Living Instructor, my job was to ensure the well-being and and safety of the individuals in the group home while encouraging them to be as independent as possible. Although this was an entry level position, I worked hard and led my coworkers by example. My work ethic in this job led to a promotion into a management position after only three months.

Working at Restoration Wellness helped me gain experience with customer service as well as office management. A big part of my job was interacting with clients over the phone and in person. I was also responsible for inventory, ordering supplies, billing, and any other necessary tasks around the office.

As Nutrition Coordinator, I worked with Sodexo to improve the quality and nutritional value of the food in the dining halls at Ithaca College. This involved changes in the actual food served, such as adding vegetables to Taco Tuesday, as well as promoting healthy choices from the food available for faculty, staff, and students. Along with other student workers, I created a successful healthy lifestyle challenge for faculty and staff. I also gave presentations to my peers, created promotional materials to display around campus, and wrote a weekly blog about a variety of nutrition related issues.

This internship, which I worked at over breaks from school, gave me insight into how a non-profit organization is run. I helped Cornerstone Montgomery (which was then called St. Luke's House Inc.) switch to an electronic data system while the company was going through a merger with a larger organization. I was involved in every aspect of the human resources department, from helping prepare training materials for new employees to entering data from exit interviews with former employees.
