UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) is a collaborating Centre with UN Environment Programme, working to put nature at the heart of decision-making. I work in a small, close-knit team of three to produce the communications for all of UNEP-WCMC. This includes writing or copy-editing all the blogs on our Medium page, producing news pieces on a wide range of scientific outputs, managing the Centre's social media and creating a monthly newsletter that goes to internal staff, our Board and Trustees, as well as colleagues at UN Environment Programme. Our team also supports colleagues from around the Centre in producing reports, presentations, and videos. I myself copy-edit reports, edit PowerPoint presentations for international conferences, and draft scripts for videos.

At the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons I schedule and monitor our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn) through Hootsuite, write and commission copy for our regular printed publications RCVS News and VN Education, monitor news coverage, respond to media enquiries, run the organisation's webinars, and work on the stand at public-facing and industry events. I also proactively launched both our Instagram account (@theRCVS) and an RCVS podcast (https://rcvs.podbean.com), and ran multiple industry-wide social media campaigns.

I was originally hired on a six-month contract to transfer content to the new website, making extensive use of the Drupal CMS and editing blog posts. My contract was then extended for another nine months, expanding my remit to include the creation of promotional videos, editing and commissioning blogs, writing case studies with the Business Development Team and curating content for both the CEH and the Valuing Nature Programme websites. For these roles I have taught myself to use Drupal, Videoscribe and Premiere Pro, creating content on such diverse topics as climate change and the effects of metal pollution on worm health.

In 2015 I was commissioned to write five pieces for a new website, 'Lost and Found'. The website tells good news stories in conservation by focusing on species thought to be extinct that came 'back from the dead'. Working closely with the producers I used news pieces, interviews and scientific articles to piece together the stories of five mammals: the wooly flying squirrel, the Leadbeater's possum, the red crested tree rat, the flat-headed myotis, and the Bulmer's fruit bat.

The Institute for European Environmental Policy performs many functions, but at its core it is an international independent research organisation that works with clients such as the European Union and WWF, conducting independent research on everything from biodiversity to environmental economics. While there I: - Designed a leaflet for the Institute, teaching myself InDesign in the process - Presented on the use of Twitter and the Communications Team's work at an Institute retreat - Created the most recent IEEP newsletter - Created design for a Bioenergy report that went on to covered in the Guardian, the BBC, and ENDS. - Compiled all press contact information - Created a PowerPoint template - Instated a new system for storing all the Institute’s images - Updated the website with new articles, press releases, and publications - Assisted in organising a high-level conference in Brussels on the 7th EAP, replying to all questions and concerns and designing a banner and postcard for the event - Organised a conference for CAPRI-RD participants in Leuven, including conducting research on all the possible accommodation, conference venues, evening activities, and restaurant choices.

The Pembroke-King’s Programme is an international summer school in Cambridge. That year it had a record number of students attending, over 350, with most of those from China or the USA. As a Programme Assistant I: - Worked in a team of 14 to plan and run each week's extra-curricular activities for the students - Advertised, recruited acts, and conducted set-up for a Talent Show at the end of the Programme - Ran overnight trips to York and Edinburgh, as well as day trips to Oxford and London - Set up classrooms and assisted lecturersA typical day would last from 8:30 – 6:30, and we were on call over the weekends.
