My passion is working with small business. CEOs and Owners want to reach a future of financial success and independence and work/life balance. When I look at any small business, I see challenges and opportunities, successes and failures, setbacks and growth. I see small business owners working themselves into exhaustion and even ill-health. I did it myself.It took the helping hand of a great coach and my peers in his mastermind group to guide me to working on my business, not in it. I had to learn to trust people around me, tell the truth, even when it was hard, admit that I sometimes didn't know what I was doing. I learned to ask for help, take the coaching. I learned to love the climb, not obsess about the destination.The destination is an illusion if you’re expecting, as a small business, to reachit in weeks or months. To grow a small business ready to sell, or to start acquiring other businesses to secure your growth, is a journey with many long miles ahead. Goals are important – they can keep you focused, but if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing (usually because you’re in the weeds and hating it), then either start working ON your business, or get out and go and do something you're passionate about. That why, now that I’ve sold my business, I’m a Coach and mastermind group Chair myself. I get to listen, to coach, to challenge, to encourage, to watch in wonder, to learn. When I call anyone for the second time, they always say, “Hi, Anna.” Since 1994, when I came to the States, I’ve had this voice; a voice people recognize when I call back. Now that’s an asset.When you hear an English accent, what’s your reaction? For many Americans, they think we’re telling the truth, that we can be trusted, they relax into a safe space. There’s the rub - the accent brings a heavy burden of responsibility; it’s a high standard to live up to.And yet the burden has been a great blessing in my life. It reminds me that there’s no peak to that mountain, no way to be perfectly trustworthy or to always tell the complete, unvarnished truth. It’s a lens through which I can assess my leadership and strive to be as great as I can be.
