Currently a senior consultant with RM Consulting Group, a Member of the Fire District Review Panel (providing advice to the Minister for Emergency Services) and a small-scale beef and sheep farmer in Gippsland. I work at the intersections of environmental protection, land/water/marine-use planning, regional development, major infrastructure, emergency management, agriculture, government policy, and community resilience. Over the past 30 years, I have developed understanding and a versatile set of language, skills and experience to service industry, community and government sectors. I thrive in navigating complexity, and helping decision makers and stakeholders to achieve consensus or ways forward on complex issues. I am able to plan, research, analyse, and facilitate difficult discussions and decision-making, and then help to write, communicate, implement or evaluate a strategy, plan or policy. I have formal training in biology, ecology, spatial analysis, negotiation, engagement & consultation, education, policy development, cultural safety, farm management, behavioural change, sustainability, public administration and governance. I ran my own environmental, planning and engineering consulting business for 16 years, and have worked as a commercial scientific diver for around 10 years, researching marine environments in Australia and south-east Asia.I hold a Bachelor of Science, am a graduate of the AICD Company Directors Course, and am currently studying a Masters of Public Policy. I have served on South Gippsland Water Corporation Board (8 years, including one term as Deputy Chair), the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (8 years), Planning Panels Victoria (2 years), Regional Development Australia Gippsland Committee (4 years), and the West Gippsland Catchment Management’s Ecosystem Advisory Group and Weeds Taskforce (5 years). My experience crosses many boundaries: science and engineering, people and infrastructure, sea and land, conservation and use, past and future. Ultimately, I work with an eye on inter-generational equity, wherever possible helping to guide good, long term decision making.
