I’m a professional with a BS Degree from UH in Family Studies and Human Development, with a minor in Education. I have more than 12 years of experience working with young adults with IDD, ASD, and other neurodiversities. My professional experiences related to neurodiverse young adults began when I worked in a leadership role for a small non-profit guiding young adults aged 18-30 years old to create and execute tailored goals that provided social, personal, and vocational support. In every work setting I’ve worked with students, parents, employers, vendors, agencies, and organizations serving individuals with disabilities. I have a track record of leading or being a part of teams with successful results. In multiple positions I partnered with TWC- Vocational Rehabilitation Services to execute projects such as the largest and most successful Summer Earn and Learn (SEAL) program serving over 600 transition students, a first of its kind state funded Job Coach Pilot, Paving the Pathway, Foster Youth Collaborative, and the Galveston Region Employment And Transition (GREAT) conferences. I’ve also spoken at the Texas Transition Conference, Texas Workforce Commission annual conference, and National Association of Workforce Boards in DC on topics related to employment of neurodiverse individuals.I have personal experience when it comes to navigating these topics, as a bonus parent to an 11-year-old young man with ASD, ADHD, OCD, Dysgraphia, Klinefelter Syndrome, and a few other neurodevelopmental diagnoses. His experience in the education system, reinforced the importance of learning crucial skills as early as possible, as well as the importance of advocacy and knowing Special Education laws to get the supports owed to students. These jobs, trainings, projects, and personal experiences have driven home to me the lack of (soft) skills that transition age students and young adults have entering into adulthood and the world of work. It has made me realize how vital and beneficial it is to encourage and support neurodivergent individuals and their families with strategies and tools they can use as they enter adulthood. It had also made me aware that it is never too early to start! All of these factors and my support circle have helped me take a leap of faith and begin Daisy Consulting. I am not a therapist, but I am passionate about creating a world where neurodivergent individuals have equal opportunities for success, and I have connections to a vast network of professionals and organizations that can provide additional beneficial services or resources.
