As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois, my career in hospital-based social work included support, intervention, advocacy, and system navigation guidance for children, adolescents, and adults living with chronic or life-limiting health conditions. Clinical practice-related experience encompassed adult physical medicine and rehabilitation, adult general medicine, pediatric dialysis, and pediatric palliative care, with my primary role across 11 years in healthcare social work being adult and pediatric cystic fibrosis (CF).Primary professional and personal growth and development in my career included membership in the Cook County Human Trafficking Taskforce for Healthcare, aimed at improving healthcare provider identification and response to victims of human trafficking in healthcare settings, co-management of a primary hospital initiative to reduce avoidable readmissions in medically and socially vulnerable high utilizing patients through improved communication and enhanced systems navigation, and healthcare quality improvement (QI) and QI leadership in CF care. In January 2023, I transitioned from hospital-based social work to a position as a Senior Quality Improvement Specialist with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This role allows me to connect my love of working with people with CF, their families, and care teams and my excitement for the possibilities of improving and innovating clinical care processes to achieve better outcomes for all people with CF.
