Independent Research ConsultantI am a part of a research team developing a novel implant to be inserted during a high tibial osteotomy. The implant is specifically designed for high impact patients with varus alignment. The osteotomy restores proper alignment to the knee and the implant inside is weight bearing, which can delay the need for a total knee arthroplasty due to medial compartment osteoarthritis. I have been 3D printing and mechanically testing models on an ADMET system and measuring their deformation with strain gauges. I have also been simulating the results on Fusion360. The next steps include more robust testing with an MTS system and cadaver experimentation to determine the necessary instrumentation and insertion technique for the implant.
