With the support of women mentors, girls work in teams to build apps that solve problems in their communities. My role was to recruit, train, and support mentors, teachers, students and volunteers throughout the program. I also designed the Technovation curriculum and website, organized annual Pitch Night events, presented the program at conferences around the world, and recruited and supported full time staff. In three years, I grew the program from 43 girls in one city to over 1400 girls in 24 states and 19 countries. -
TeacherAlbany Unified School District Jul 2008 - Jun 2010Full-time classroom teacher in a diverse, Title 1 school (1st and 4th grade). Taught an integrated unit on California native plants, helped students create a quilt to celebrate family diversity (quilt on display at the Albany Public Library), and designed website to publish student artwork, poetry, and other writing. Designed and taught a six-month Journey around the World thematic unit in which students “traveled” to 16 countries—using authentic artifacts, food, artwork, literature, and costumes to enrich their understanding of each culture. Received a grant from the Albany Education Foundation to purchase yoga mats for the school and implemented a yoga and mindfulness program with my students.
