The Changemaker Project empowers young people to create a better world. Our students learn about social and environmental justice issues, work in teams to tackle real-world problems with unique and innovative solutions, and pitch their projects for seed funding at our annual Global Pitch event. Founded Green & Go, a plant-based food company dedicated to making healthy, sustainable and convenient on-the-go meals. Our goal was to make it easier for people to eat in line with their values by offering an easy choice that helps the planet. We launched in March of 2013 and expanded to 40+ grocery stores across Northern California, from Marin down to Fresno. Sold business to 2Forks in 2017.

Technovation is a program that inspires girls to be leaders in technology through app development. With the support of women mentors, girls work in teams to build apps that solve problems in their communities. My role was to recruit, train, and support mentors, teachers, students and volunteers throughout the program. I also designed the Technovation curriculum and website, organized annual Pitch Night events, presented the program at conferences around the world, and recruited and supported full time staff. In three years, I grew the program from 43 girls in one city to over 1400 girls in 24 states and 19 countries.

Full-time classroom teacher in a diverse, Title 1 school (1st and 4th grade). Taught an integrated unit on California native plants, helped students create a quilt to celebrate family diversity (quilt on display at the Albany Public Library), and designed website to publish student artwork, poetry, and other writing. Designed and taught a six-month Journey around the World thematic unit in which students “traveled” to 16 countries—using authentic artifacts, food, artwork, literature, and costumes to enrich their understanding of each culture. Received a grant from the Albany Education Foundation to purchase yoga mats for the school and implemented a yoga and mindfulness program with my students. Member: Gardening Committee, Community of Respect Committee, Greening Schools Committee, and Conflict Manager Program.

Lead environmental educator for nature-based science program. Developed curriculum and lead hands-on exploration, games, and activities to teach students aged 6-9 about environmental science.

Teach Compassion is a community-based program to teach children in local schools about social justice issues. Designed curriculum, recruited and trained 25 volunteers from the Notre Dame campus, partnered with ten South Bend public schools, and organized over 100 class presentations each semester. Created curriculum on environmental issues, animal protection, human rights, and the importance of diversity.
