With more than 30 years as a Registered Nurse, I can offer knowledge and confidence that only comes through hard work and experience I began my career on a med/surg floor. I quickly realized that the nursing field was wide open with possibilities for education and growth. I moved to Critical Care (CTICU and SICU) and then became interested in Emergency Medicine. I quickly grew to love the excitement and critical thinking necessary to excel in this specialty. My experience included critical care transport, training of new nurses, preceptorship, overseeing and training of support staff. After 10 years and various leadership roles I longed for something different. I began my professional journey in procedural nursing, starting in Endoscopy. Within five years, I became the unit’s clinician responsible for staffing and patient scheduling. As part of a collaborative team, where I built strong professional relationships with MDs, RNs and support staff, I was an integral part in the expansion of the department from 10-15 procedures daily to more than 50 procedures daily for both outpatients and critically ill inpatients in both the pediatric and adult population. After seven years as clinician, I decided to take another leap. I’ve spent the past 10 years as a nurse in the operating room. I achieved confidence and success in both the scrub and circulator role. I continue to take an active preceptor role and I also take part in retention, quality and safety and scheduling committees. I have trained in all surgical subspecialties with a strong focus on Cosmetic and Reconstrucive Surgery and Head and Neck surgeries. As a life-long learner, I continue to be curious about different nursing experiences and am certain I will excel in a new nursing role.
