As an independent consultant, I worked on research, advocacy and evaluation projects for international institutions and international and national non-governmental institutions on issues relating to refugees and migrants.

I was a teaching fellow in Georgetown University's political asylum clinic. As a fellow, I was responsible for supervising students who represented asylum seekers in the United States and for teaching substantive classes.

I was responsible for working with colleagues in analyzing and commenting on proposed immigration-related regulations, in collaborating on federal court litigation challenging immigration laws and procedures, mentoring attorneys on issues related primarily to deportation and defense and working with coalitions in developing advocacy strategies to promote.

I was responsible for opening a small human rights office in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Our work focused on: investigating allegations of human rights abuses committed by the government; preparing and filing complaints before international fora, such as the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights; research and reporting on the situation of human rights.

I worked in private practice, representing noncitizens in immigration, civil and criminal proceedings before administrative, state and federal courts.
