9th Grade Physical Science - Full-year Substitute

While student teaching at Butler Intermediate High School, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful cooperating teacher that really helped me to find myself as the teacher I want to be in the classroom. The students I taught were very diverse in the respect that many had IEPs and/or 504 Plans. Due to this circumstance, I had the opportunity to really work on practicing and implementing differentiated instruction in the classroom. Additionally, I participated in multiple IEP meetings. About half way through my student teaching experience at BIHS, the COVID-19 school closures commenced. A lot of student teachers in my situation may look at this as a negative, but I do my best to look at it as a positive. Although I greatly missed the face-to-face interaction, I was fortunate enough to learn how to plan and implement online instruction during this time. I think that this will prove to be a valuable skill that I possess when interviewing for my first teaching position.

In this position, I was in charge of overseeing a floor of residents in a residence hall at Slippery Rock University. I planned programs on my own as well as with my staff in order to help SRU students have a better transition into college life. The topics of the programs ranged from community building, diversity topics, stress relief and much more.
