Duties include collecting limnological field data such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, light penetration profiles; collect zooplankton and phytoplankton samples, collect water samples for nutrient analysis; construct and take down of fish weirs; collect fish scale, length, and weight samples; apply fertilizer to the lake; record field data; operate outboard motor boats on the ocean and lakes; operate general field camp equipment (pumps, gasoline and propane fueled equipment and power tools).Additionally duties not associated with weir work could include working with Sitka Ranger District staff to help on an assortment of projects. Projects could include goshawk surveys; plant collection; riparian and stream habitat condition surveys; implement watershed and fish habitat improvement projects which may include Large Woody Debris placement in streams; removal of failing log weirs and bridges from old road systems, fly into remote areas by helicopter and float plane, utilizing cabins and field camps; assisting in kid fishing derby and other educational outreach programs.
