• Leads programs for sustainable water management in the Okanagan Basin: water planning, science and policy, and Eurasian watermilfoil control. Reports to a board of elected officials. • Advocates for Okanagan water issues and best practices for water sustainability in BC, making presentations to a wide range of audiences in different venues, and acting as lead spokesperson to media, local and senior governments, and citizen groups. Translates science and policy issues to non-scientists.• Works with the multi-stakeholder Okanagan Water Stewardship Council, the technical advisory body to the Okanagan Basin Water Board - bridging the recommendations of the Council with the goals of the Board.• Identifies water research needs and facilitates research by universities and government agencies, liaising between local governments and research teams.• Creates, coordinates, and provides leadership and financial administration for water science and policy partnerships and projects to support local and regional plans for sustainable water infrastructure and community development.• Brings together and coordinates complex funding partnerships; develops and manages budgets for the organization and individual projects. • Administers water grants programs.

• First Director of the newly-established Okanagan Water Stewardship Council. Helped develop Terms of Reference, Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles, and to develop a research plan.• Guided initial development of the Okanagan Sustainable Water Strategy by the Okanagan Water Stewardship Council. • Established water conservation and quality improvement grant program. • Worked with agriculture industry, biologists and environmental groups to identify water issues and resolve conflicts between human and environmental needs.

The International Osoyoos Lake Board of Control was established to assist the International Joint Commission on its exercise of powers and responsibilities for the management of Osoyoos Lake under the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. The Board is comprised of an equal number of members from the U.S. and Canada.

Appointed by the BC Minister of Finance. The mission of the Foundation is to transform land use attitudes and practices through innovation, stewardship, and learning. Through grants, the Foundation provides funding to non-profit organizations working for positive change in BC communities. By supporting innovative and progressive solutions, the Foundation’s work contributes to resilient, healthy communities and natural environments. In addition, the Foundation plays a key role in connecting with communities and organizations to open opportunities and share information on land use issues in BC. By supporting collaborative projects that can be scaled and replicated in other communities, we help non-profit organizations build more sustainable communities. Fresh water, sustainable food systems and well-planned built environments are integral to sustainable communities; accordingly, they are a priority for our grants.

Team-taught an upper-division course (Fall 2009, Spring 2011, Fall 2018): "Sustainability, Planning, and the Political Process in the Okanagan." The course's goal was to expose students to real-world problems and issues related to sustainability, and how they can practically be approached. Using Okanagan examples, students had hands-on learning experiences and meet professionals working in the field. There was a special emphasis on the role and jurisdiction of local government.

• Developed watershed plan for the Laguna de Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, CA: evaluating restoration needs, management options and water quality issues. • Coordinated multi-stakeholder partnerships and interagency funding agreements for restoration of riparian areas and management of invasive species, communicating with agencies, local governments, public and press. • Collaborated with universities, federal, state and local government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to develop research programs for biology and hydrology, environmental policy and implementation.
