The job comprised of writing quick applications and generally supporting users in the Customer Services Centre with any problems whether it be hardware or software. After a restructure of the division the job description changed. I became a member of the Customer Services Help Desk team, charged primarily with providing first-line telephone support to 5,000+ Personal Computer users in London, The Hague and other international Shell Centre HQ's. The team of six were responsible for providing solutions to problems encountered by Shell Centre staff in the day-to-day usage i.e. Hardware and Software solutions. Also involved in producing the Customer Services Newsletter; a bi-monthly publication, with a circulation of 1600 copies, the purpose is to provide computing news, explain current issues and trends, and to educate the Shell Centre computing community. Later becoming more involved in Virus Control within Shell and ways of combating and destroying the ones that are found.
