The Director of Advancement Services is the information systems manager for Fenn’s Advancement Office, managing resources that support all school fundraising programs and functions. The director is responsible for providing strategic leadership including long and short-term planning in the areas of stewardship, prospect management, research, gift processing, database integrity, reporting, data analysis, and system enhancements.

Directed expansion of Fenn’s advancement program from two-person staff focused on annual fund raising to five-person team staffing annual and capital fund raising efforts, alumni relations program with revitalized alumni association, and a comprehensive publications initiative. Coordinated all aspects of three-year Opening Doors to the Future capital campaign which surpassed original goal of $3.5 million, raising $5.1 million with 55 gifts of $25,000 or more. Prepared case statement and briefing books; organized cultivation dinners, vision nights, campaign kick-off and final celebration. Oversaw growth of Annual Fund from $147,000 to $574,000, increasing lead gift from $3,000 to $25,000. Managed redesign of Fenn Bulletin and creation of Sua Sponte newsletter. Developed long-range plans for all areas of advancement as part of school-wide strategic planning effort. Served as liaison to parents’ association and three trustee committees (development, financial and facility needs planning, committee on trustees).

Coordinated the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects for gift of $25,000+ as part of the nucleus fund for proposed $100 million capital campaign. Successfully solicited gifts ranging from $25,000 to $2 million. Developed major gifts tracking system. Directed five-member major gifts staff. Staffed presidential travel; organized presidential cultivation dinners and events; drafted presidential correspondence and major funding proposals.

Responsible for all development activities carried out by five-member staff. Increased annual giving from $279,000 to $630,000. Oversaw creation of major gifts committee for solicitation of annual gifts, increasing leadership giving by 30%. Implemented patient solicitation program. Wrote successful two-year, $730,000 proposal for computer equipment. Re-established and staffed board-level development committee. Served as liaison to trustee nominating committee and board of corporators.

Oversaw all advancement operations, including successful $4 million capital campaign and growth of annual fund from $285,000 to $500,000. Supervised six-person staff. Liaison to trustee development, nominating, and facility planning committees. Served as capital campaign director, coordinated prospect research, developed solicitation strategies, staffed volunteer committees, tracked solicitation progress. Campaign surpassed goal by $566,000. Coordinated successful $550,000 mini major gifts campaign for library construction.

Managed all aspects of $1 million annual fund, including reunion fundraising, direct mail, phonathons, gift processing and acknowledgment. Using extensive volunteer network, coordinated solicitation of Associate-level annual gifts ($500-$25,000). Supervised annual fund staff of four. Organized 25th and 50th reunion fundraising efforts. Developed and managed office budget; oversaw personnel issues and financial reporting. Designed gift, pledge, and solicitation systems for computer conversion.

Developed and implemented yearly strategy for $1 million annual fund. Wrote and produced direct mail brochures and personalized, targeted solicitation letters. Oversaw class agent network. Coordinated 17 regional phonathons and introduced ongoing student phonathon program.

Organized fundraising efforts for 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th reunion classes, including leadership gift campaigns, direct mail, and phonathons.

As Radcliffe liaison to Harvard-Radcliffe Fund, developed plan for integration of recent classes into Harvard and Radcliffe capital campaigns. Compiled case statement and related materials. Recruited volunteers, conducted screening sessions, trained volunteers, supervised phonathons. Drafted copy for brochures and letters. Organized record-breaking senior class gift campaigns in 1981 and 1982.
