Profile bio

About Anne Corbitt

I wrote my first book in kindergarten. “My Bike” had three chapters and hand-drawn illustrations, and it told the story of (you guessed it) my bicycle. My mother had it spiral-bound, and we entered it into a city-wide contest that, somehow, it won. From that moment, I knew I would tell stories for the rest of my life.Over the years, my passion for the writing, reading, and study of narratives has guided my professional and personal life, taking many forms along the way. I published an award-winning novel (Rules for Lying, SEMO Press), as well as many short stories and essays. I created and wrote an interactive serial mystery that offered readers the chance to be detectives, actively working to solve (and influencing the story line of) a fictional missing person’s case. As a freelance editor and novel coach, I have helped other writers develop their sparks of ideas into finished novels they could hold in their hands. I have taught writing and literature at various universities for more than ten years and mentored dozens of emerging writers, and through it all, I have grown only more enthusiastic about the power and importance of a good story. I passionate about the future of storytelling. I love books and other traditional publication options (you should see my overflowing shelves), but I am particularly excited about the interactive and immersive world of narrative games. I play a number of such games myself—from subscription boxes to mobile apps to PC and console games—and am interested in opportunities to fully explore and engage in this evolving medium of storytelling.
