I serve as the Executive Director of Washington Heritage Museums (WHM) in Fredericksburg, VA. WHM owns and maintains four historic house museums - The Mary Washington House, the Rising Sun Tavern, the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop, and St. James' House.Each site is linked to the Washington family. The Mary Washington House is the last home of Mary Washington, George Washington's mother. The Rising Sun Tavern was the home of Charles Washington before becoming a tavern. The Hugh Mercer Apothecary represents the 18th century medical practice of Dr. Hugh Mercer, who treated Mary Washington. The St. James' House was the home of James Mercer, a local attorney who drew up the will of Mary Washington. All sites are within walking distance of each other in historic downtown Fredericksburg.
