➡️ As the Program Director for the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) and Nutrition Programs, I provide overall technical, programmatic and strategic leadership for effective program execution and growth, while ensuring Amref’s strategic priorities are reflected throughout the programs.Contributed to the National Community Health Workers Certification Guidelines, the National Adolescent Reproductive Health and Development Policy 2023-2028, the National Adolescent and Youth Development Policy, as well as Community Health Services Bills for Nyeri and Kwale counties in Kenya.Built strategic partnerships with government partners and funders to maximize funding and impact for for community health, teenage pregnancy prevention, family planning and gender equality interventions; key partners included Johnson & Johnson, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the ELMA Foundation, and UNICEF.Secured multi-million-dollar funding from diverse donors that included FCDO, the European Union (EU), CIFF, USAID, Porticus, the Elma Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to advance project activities.Led development of digital health solutions (AskDoki Chatbot and af-rika.com online platform) to support adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health interventions.Managing 55 program staff (including five direct reports) and multi-million-dollar program budgets.Ensuring program quality and performance capitalizing on training and mentoring of staff.Facilitated the roll-out of novel approaches to combat female genital mutilation/ female genital cut (FGM/FGC) such as community declarations to end FGM/FGC (Kisima Declaration) in Samburu County.Amplified Amref’s position and profile as key partner on RMNH, Child Health, SRHR, and Nutrition through representation at Technical Working Groups (TWGs).

➡️ My primary role involved developing and implementing resource mobilization strategies to help secure funding for public health programs on WASH, family planning, SRHR, HIV/AIDS and TB, laboratory systems strengthening and health system strengthening, in line with the 2018-2020 No Turning Back Corporate Strategy that aimed at mobilizing USD 175 million by 2022. In addition, I served as the proposal development focal person for Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Senegal, and Guinea Bissau.Co-developed the 2018-2022 corporate strategy, business development operating plan and budgets.Helped catalyze multi-million-dollar funding (USD 117M) from USAID, The Global Fund, CDC, and the EU in support of programs and projects on RMNCAH, family planning, GBV, women empowerment, nutrition, malaria and HIV/AIDS.Empowered countries by supporting them in developing funding pitches.Played an instrumental role in the development of a project (koota injena) that involved FGM/FGC, early child and forced marriages interventions for the Kenya Office.Energized staff with trainings on proposal development and resource mobilization.

➡️ As a Business Development Manager, I helped grow Amref’s program portfolio by managing resource mobilization, coordinating proposal development and partnership building with local and international partners. Pivotal in the development of Amref Health Africa’s 2018-2022 strategic plan and the 2018-2022 resource mobilization plan that helped generate over USD 60 million in funding from private, government and institutional donors.Supported the establishment of social enterprises which evolved into a full-fledged Venture Development Department.

➡️ I managed the implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and closeout of Amref’s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), WASH, and Nutrition projects in Makueni, Kitui and Meru Counties. I also served on a stretch assignment in South Africa to help design MNCH and WASH programs. As part of a USD 300,000 Food Fortification Project, formalized fortification guidelines for small and medium-sized millers and oil producers.Exerted influence on the national food and nutrition security policy through evidence generation on biofortification by small and medium-sized millers and oil producers.Co-developed a community health engagement platform (M-Jali) – an innovative solution (mobile application) for improving collection, analysis and dissemination of community data, and a toolkit used by community-based organizations to improve maternal and child health.Co-Investigator and Investigator on studies on determinants of skilled attended delivery, alternatives for improving skilled delivery, determinants of maternal mortality in Makueni County, and use of CSOs as agents of health promotion.Recruited and managed 12 local and expatriate staff, and oversaw project budgets.Mobilized multi-million-dollar funding (USD 12M) from DANIDA, Comic Relief, and the European Union through proposal development to advance MNCH and reproductive health programs.Paved the way for improved service delivery through knowledge management, capacity building of government, county partners and CSOs.Built partnerships with a sub-grant portfolio comprising 12 community and implementing partners.Facilitated the inter-sectoral integration of WASH with RMNCAH programs, as well as monitoring and evaluation and closeout of the projects.Documented and disseminated case studies, best practice models, and messaging on food fortification for use by Community Health Workers (CHWs).

➡️ I implemented integrated WASH and nutrition in school-going children projects in Nairobi’s informal settlements with funding support from GSK, managed project budgets and two project staff. Facilitated the integration of SRHR with the WASH project, the adoption of Personal Hygiene and Sanitation Education (PHASE) kits in informal schools in urban informal settlements, and the roll out of community-led total sanitation (CLTS) interventions.Co-developed the Kenya School Health Policy. Supported the development of a pilot study on comprehensive school health, the implementation of the GIZ-funded Comprehensive School Health program, including the scale up of the program from 39 to 80 schools.Collaborated with project staff in developing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems to boost M&E efforts.Documented best practices and lessons learned, presented at the 2011 Urban Health Conference.

➡️ I contributed to the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs-funded Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights project, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Service and Gender, local administration, cultural leaders, peer educators and community members. Engaged in the development of” Unite for Body Rights” project funded by the Dutch Government, a multi-country Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) project funded by DANIDA, and supported the design of the Girl-Centered Program implemented by Population Council.Leveraged culturally-appropriate approaches (Ukoroti dance) to secure community mobilization and buy-in for HIV testing, mother-daughter forums in pastoralist communities, and dialogue on SRHR.Engaged cultural leaders and community members on ending FGM, child marriages and introducing alternative rites of passage.Developed behavior change and communication strategy, the gender, culture and rights strategy, advocacy plans and M&E plans.Carried out research and published articles on autonomy of women in health care seeking.

➡️ I supported monitoring, evaluation and research activities for HIV and livelihood projects. Designed the M&E strategy and plans and assessed project progress through monitoring and evaluation.Built capacity of 10 staff with trainings on project reporting.Designed a standard reporting document to support partners in project reporting, data collection forms to support data collection, and prepared monitoring and evaluation reports.

As a student in Kenyatta university ,I took up work-study-based assignments as a technical editor for various modules for students in the distance learning programme.Key Achievement• Developed and edited learning materials and modules on a variety of health topics, including HIV/AIDs, Maternal Health and Health Promotion for use by more than 5,000 open learning at the undergraduate level.

Worked as a part time researcher for six months with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. I Participated in a large-scale quantitative and qualitative survey of the institutional capacity of science and technology-oriented organizations in order to assess gaps that can be addressed by the National Council of Science and Technology. Specific assignment was to assess three key institutions; Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS), Coffee Research Institute, and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research (KALRO)Key Achievements• Produced data sets for use in analysis and interpretation.• Developed a comprehensive report detailing organizational gaps and recommendations for the three institutions• Prepared an abridged version of the report and presented the findings to the management.
