Developed animal models and surgical techniques to study a variety of therapeutic areas: cancer, regeneration, wound healing, bacterial infection, diabetes, and hair growth.Designed and taught workshop on histology techniques including: immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, lectin binding, and image analysis.Developed in vivo imaging and LC-MS/MS biomarker assays for animal models.Developed novel small molecules that can modulate glycan extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis, accelerate wound healing, modify immune response, enhance regeneration and regulate hair growth in mouse models.Utilized imaging technologies and developed novel in vivo assays to discover that in vivo modulation of the ECM accelerates wound healing, enhances regeneration, regulates the hair growth cycle, and extends lifetime.Established and managed collaborations with chemical synthesis and computational biology groups.Managed small research team, trained and mentored 15 scientists and associates.Fully funded, $2 million in grants awarded.

Developed novel in vivo assay for synthetic induction of regeneration to identify mammalian based signaling capable of inducing regeneration. Successfully induced salamander limb regeneration using off-the-shelf mammalian growth factors.Discovered ability of the ECM to regulate cell signaling during regeneration is conserved in mammals.Developed microsurgery and cross-species transplantation methods to study in vivo regeneration.
