When I started there in late 2009 only a small number Energy Efficiency programs were offered. Within six months, taking an entrepreneurial approach, I re-created the Energy Services Department. With one staff member, we developed a department that today provides a robust portfolio of 20 + commercial and residential Demand Side Management (DSM) programs including, Weatherization, Ductless Heat Pumps, Heat pump Water Heaters, Commercial Lighting, and Custom Remodel and New Construction Projects. Managing funds from BPA (Bonneville Power Administration) we have increased our incentives by almost 50% and increased savings by over 1 million kWh.In collaboration with our Communications department and our website company, PixelSpoke, I created all of the content under the Energy Services banner (www.opalco.com/energy-services). We also created a Blog,"Sharing the Load" allowing us to bring our members local and national energy efficiency and renewable energy news.Wise electricity usage is an ongoing educational mantra. Not having the luxury of local radio or television stations and because most people come here to get away from it all, marketing our programs takes a clever edge. I have created marketing materials for the local newspapers, the multiple, around town bulletin boards, online news sites, developed and executed contests and even donned costumes to engage with the public. I also deliver presentations to civic organizations such as the Lions Club and prepare and deliver Energy Efficiency and Conservation lessons through the school districts. I have also presented and moderated at regional conferences.“OPALCO is one of our top producing co-ops in terms of energy efficiency and conservation,” saidStuart Clarke, Senior Account Executive for BPA. “Their programs and outreach success are a model for other co-ops in the region.”
