Co-founder. KEF provides education and mentoring to poor and nomadic children in Kenya through the Kenyan school systems and specialized workshops to help them improve their lives and the lives of their families and communities. Because of our belief in the importance of supporting nomadic children and girls, at least 50% our students are girls and 50% are from pastoralist groups. Founded in 2001 as Nomadic Kenyan Children's Educational Fund, merged with/aquired two other organizations (KEF and Children of Kibera) with similar missions in 2011 and 2014 and continues working with almost 1,000 students each year, most of whom go on to continuing education and employment. In 2016, over 79% of KEF-supported students qualified for Kenyan University (grades of B+ or higher on national exams) vs only 31% on average across Kenya.

Levine School of Music provides music education and a music center and community for musicians of all ages and abilities in the greater Washington, DC region, and extensive scholarship support for economically disadvantaged students. Helped build Levine from a small school located in rented space in Georgetown to four major locations across the region offering significant outreach and scholarship support. Levine now serving thousands each year across the region with excellence in music education and performances in classical, jazz, music theater, music therapy, and rock and roll.

RedConcero seeks to bring Internet access in Mexico to people who previously lacked these essential services, unlocking opportunities for them in education, health, economic development and other important areas.

Built this organization from the ground up and designed the processes by which it operated from the first year selecting and supporting 6 promising students to receive education and support in Kenya High Schools to a total of 500 per year by 2010. Nomadic Kenya Children's Educational Fund merged in 2011 with Kenya Education Fund and adopted its name.

Served as consultant and board member primarily for non-profit organizations in the Washington, DC area. Consulted in strategic planning, fundraising, governance and leadership development, and operating policies and processes.Board Positions include: Board Chairman of the Levine School of Music: Board of Advisors, American Red Cross Museum; Trustee, The Langley School, Trustee, Kenya Education Fund

With the Board and Director J. Carter Brown, led a major turnaround of the Gallery’s operating and business functions. Managed over 700 employees in a wide variety of functional departments with budgets over $50 million, including a government-funded operating budget, the Gallery’s capital budget, and publishing, retail, audio tour and food service businesses. Testified annually before Congressional Appropriations Committees and worked with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to support the Gallery’s budget and master plan. Successfully negotiated complex interagency and corporate agreements leading to acquisition of land for the National Gallery Sculpture Garden. Commissioned and implemented a technology strategy. Designed and implemented the Gallery’s first capital budget.

As a partner in this international management consulting firm, generated consulting revenue and developed long-term business relationships with corporate CEOs. Worked in financial services, telecommunications, chemicals, an entrepreneurial health care venture, non-profits and other industries. Focused on implementing major strategic change, management processes and organization design. Directed teams of consultants and researchers.

Founded the Hometown News Service to produce/distribute articles on Festival of American Folklife participants.
