For three years I worked as a postdoctoral associate at the Sims-Lucas lab, located in Rangos Research Center, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. My focus relied on the roles of medium-chain fatty acids and microRNAs in acute kidney injury (AKI).I hold a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. My doctoral advisor was Dr. Wen Xie, a prestigious researcher in the field of inflammation-induced hepatic disorders. My Ph.D. project focused on the role of ischemic acute kidney injury-mediated hepatic organ crosstalk. Before joining the Ph.D. program, in 2015 I was granted a scholarship by the Brazilian educational program Science without Borders to pursue a doctoral degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) School of Pharmacy. Four months prior I graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) with a one-year sandwich period at the University of Dundee (UK). As an undergraduate Pharmacy student at UFRN, I was involved in several scientific projects advised by Dr. Adriana Augusto de Rezende. Those projects encompassed the standardization of T2DM induction in obese mice; and the importance of gene polymorphisms for the development of cleft lip and palate in infants. In 2013 I was for the first time granted a sandwich period scholarship by the Brazilian educational program Science without Borders. This scholarship permitted me to take several courses of the Molecular Genetics degree at the School of Life Sciences of the University of Dundee (UoD), United Kingdom. Furthermore, at UoD I had the opportunity to work on a summer project with Dr. Marília Costa, advised by Dr. Frank Sargent; this project involved the use of transposon mutagenesis to elucidate the mechanism by which Serratia marcescens DB10 secrete their chitinolytic enzymes, and to identify what genes are involved in this process. I have an interest in the fields of Pharmacogenomics, Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Toxicology; particularly in the fields of acute kidney injury (AKI), autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer.
