CPALs is committed to bringing together diverse health advocacy leaders to improve their advocacy capacity and identify ways to collaborate and unify the voices of many. Through CPALs we hope to improve the lives of those affected by disease and chronic health conditions, by educating and mobilizing health advocacy leaders to work collaboratively developing impactful policy and advocacy solutions focused on the prevention and elimination of disease and chronic health conditions. The end goal is united and empowered health advocates improving health and healthcare in our communities.Since 2002, well over 7,000 leaders representing approximately 2,000 organizations in 50+ countries have participated in more than 85 PALS/CPALs events around the world.

Directed industry-leading stakeholder engagement initiative for GSK, Patient Advocacy Leaders Summit (PALS). Executed national, regional and web-based capacity building programs for health advocacy leaders across the country. Led and managed external PALS Advisory Board of diverse patient advocacy leaders. Oversaw work of consultants, contractors, vendors and regional Advocacy & Alliance Development staff. Advised GSK global advocacy colleagues on development and execution of PALS initiative outside of US. • Transformed the PALS model in 2010, conceptualizing, developing and pioneering DC-based National PALS, conducted from 2011-2015 involving influential national level health advocacy and policy leaders.• Oversaw the development and execution of 32 Regional PALS events held in collaboration with local non-profit advocacy organizations in the states.• Expanded the breadth, depth and reach of PALS by initiating a series of “ePALS” webinars in 2014-2015 to connect, educate and empower advocates throughout the country. • Overhauled the PALS Advisory Board to drive performance of the Board, realize efficiencies and further develop capabilities and talents. • Instrumental in the strategic vision, design and launch of the GSK Advocacy & Alliance Development Center of Excellence in 2010. Established centralized function resulting in added value for GSK and partners.• Effectively managed PALS budget and spend execution through numerous budget reductions, delivering a sustained level of programming and engagement, with a decreased level of funding each year. • Contributed to the creation of GSK policy on “Engagement and Interactions with Patients and Non-Profit Organizations”, along with supporting systems, guidelines, training and governance.

Co-Lead on Patient Advocacy Leaders Summit (PALS) initiative, responsible for planning and executing national, regional, along with issue and therapeutic-specific (IPALS & TPALS) capacity building programs for health advocacy leaders across the country. Assisted in management of the PALS Advisory Board. Served as communications manager for State Government Affair Department. Managed a best practices development forum for State Government Affairs teammates. • Developed and delivered complex, multi-faceted and highly acclaimed National PALS events in Chapel Hill, NC for hundreds of patient advocates from across the country, involving national and local thought leaders, political headliners, celebrities, from 2006-2010.• Directed field-based teams on the development and execution of 29 Regional PALS and 16 Therapeutic PALS events held in collaboration with local non-profit advocacy organizations in the states.• Core team member and key convener in unprecedented collaboration between GSK and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to conceptualize and deliver a series of Regional Medicare PALS events on the rollout of Medicare Part D. Ten events were conducted in 8 weeks and involved over 1,000 participants.• Created and launched “Dialoging with GSK on Innovation & Patient Care”, a GSK site visit for patient advocates to enhance dialogue and collaboration between advocates and GSK. • Designed and managed an external website for the patient advocacy community, PALSCommunity.com.• Initiated and authored internal and external news releases/advocate “alerts”, along with a publication on advocacy and access for GSK internal audience, and an external newsletter for patient advocates.

Co-Lead on Patient Advocacy Leaders Summit (PALS) initiative, responsible for planning and executing national, international and regional capacity building programs for health advocacy leaders throughout the world. Oversaw relationship with key association stakeholder group. Monitored, tracked and reported on state legislative and regulatory issues and trends affecting GSK business. Managed SGA communications. • Key contributor to the conceptualization and launch of Patient Advocacy Leaders Summit, in 2002.• Created and spearheaded innovative International PALS in 2004, involving 400 advocates from 26 countries and 38 states. As a springboard for global growth of PALS, PALS events have since been held in Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Latvia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Qatar, Slovakia, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and the UK.• Selected to manage GSK’s relationships with nursing associations (American Nursing Association, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and American Council of Nurse Practitioners). • Created, designed, maintained and trained staff on internal SGA website.

Managed new product and line extension Medicaid Formulary launches and Therapeutic Class Reviews for Medicaid market. Monitored, tracked and reported on state legislative and regulatory issues and trends for use in strategic decision making. Conducted in-depth research and analysis on key issues. Managed communications & special projects. • Spearheaded over 30 new product and line extension Medicaid launches and 22 Therapeutic Class Reviews. • Streamlined complex formulary kit development process and initiated comprehensive transition plan. • Developed and administered a system to electronically capture, quantify and report state program formulary status, sales and rebate information. • Oversaw the design, development and maintenance of the Professional & State Government Affairs website.

Coordinated and implemented conferences, meetings, seminars and symposia involving key pharmacy stakeholder groups (national and state associations, schools of pharmacy, industry organizations). • Successfully executed high profile external events: Professional Affairs Advisory Board Meeting (biannually), the National Glaxo/State Pharmacy Association Straight Talk on Health Care Reform Conference (annually), the National Invitational Conference on DUR for Pharmacy Faculty (annually), the New Pharmacy School Dean’s Leadership Institute (annually), and the Phi Delta Chi Leadership Seminar (annually).• Coordinated a myriad of Professional Affairs programs and tours involving pharmacy school student groups: Pharmacy School Visitation Program (8+ schools/year); PhRMA Visiting Faculty Program; APhA Summer Internships; Pharmacy School/Glaxo Rotations. • Increased efficiency of regional Professional Affairs staff by overseeing National/State Association meeting arrangements, (NARD, APhA, ASHP), customer visits/tours, and managing grant requests and legal agreements.

Coordinated all aspects of Medicaid and Ryan White product launches and Glaxo product application/formulary submission requests to state Medicaid departments. Produced departmental special projects and communications. • Simultaneously managed two major Medicaid and Ryan White product launches (IMITREX and ZOFRAN Tablets), working collaboratively with Legal, Drug Information, Pharmacoeconomics Research, Product Management, Quality Assurance, Regulatory and Trade Relations, within first 3 months on the job • Individually led all conference planning for the First Annual Medicaid Administrators Fall Symposium. • Pioneered early adoption of State Government Affairs presence and use of VideoTEX, an online communications and information sharing tool for internal use.
