As a fiercely private company, we did not retain external PR or outsource any tasks whatsoever.During my tenure, Parsons became a top-25 consumer software developer and (shortly after I left to found my own firm) was eventually acquired by Intuit, effectively neutralizing the competition. As a freelance writer and contributing editor, I became one of the nation's top marine electronics writers despite never owning a boat larger than a canoe. During this time period, today's ubiquitous GPS system was referred to as "Star Wars" and it's availability depended upon when a satellite passed over your geographical area. Bulky hard-wired GPS units displayed numerical sets of latitude/longitude coordinates and "Garmin" was founded by two visionaries named "Gary" and "Ming."
