I left the practice of law after 20 years to focus on the role women, education and civic engagement play in a just and healthy society. My current work focuses on educating and activating young people to engage in and better shape their communities. Non-profit Founder and Executive Director – Inspired by children’s innate sense of empathy and community need, I founded Children for Change, a 501(c)(3) organization that empowers young people to define tomorrow through civic engagement. We accomplish this in the classroom, creating and delivering standards and project-based programming, and in communities, matching learning with real world problem sets. Our partnerships with school districts, local elected officials, and non-profits including, The Redford Center, the CAFilm Institute, the Multicultural Center of Marin, and the County of Marin provide young people context and the opportunity to take action and advocate on current and relevant community issues. Nine years into this work, I remain inspired by young people who are creative and passionate changemakers unbound by adults’ barriers. Board Chair, The Bay School of San Francisco – I have the honor of chairing the 25-person board at The Bay School of San Francisco, a progressive independent school in San Francisco with the intention of creating a sustainable, relevant, and desired school for an increasingly diverse population. During my tenure, we have grown endowment, expanded the campus, navigated COVID, centered and invested in diversity, equity and belonging, signed a beloved head of school to a long term contract, and developed and implemented a strategic design that forwards innovation. Attorney – I started my career in private practice serving the diverse needs of my clients, including, employment, financial services, business litigation, insurance, and trial work. I eventually moved in-house where I was part of the executive management team and addressed an array of legal issues across the business including intellectual property, investor relations, contract negotiation, business integration, and employment litigation. Board of Trustees, Ross Valley School District - served 10 years as elected trustee, including time as Board President, on a public school board addressing a range of issues including union negotiations, Superintendent searches, redistricting, COVID 19, and charter schools.
