Implementing impact expertise, facilitation, research and copy writing

Freelance academic and interdisciplinary research, editing, consultation and project management. Copywriting in English, specialized in academic texts in the humanities, social science and artistic research; translation primarily from Dutch to English and occasionally English to Dutch. I have worked with people and texts with many different requirements from various disciplines and organizations, including but not limited to students, social and natural scientific researchers, dramaturges and theater groups, and artists.

Researcher in the international collaborative public health research project: ‘Confident Futures: Collaborative and participatory learning from successful youth initiatives’. The project is an collaboration between the University of Amsterdam and New York University, headed by Anita Hardon, Helena Hansen, and Rayna Rapp. Alongside an international team of researchers and local youth organizations, I carried out ethnographic research, qualitative data analysis, event organization and facilitation.

For the duration of the master Medical Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Amsterdam, I conducted qualitative research on fermentation practices in the Netherlands. The interest in fermentation that animates this project emerged at the intersection(s) of food practices, health, knowledge production and information sharing platforms. I explored the reliance on and comfort with the industrial food complex as the 'norm', therefore at-home fermentation emerged as a site to explore thresholds of badness where industrial and post-Pasteurian repertoires both contradicted as well as informed one another. What is bad became something urgent and practical, as well as something experimented with. What did care in at-home fermentation entail? And what kind of microbiopolitics emerged from these multispecies settings?

Academic support, editing and Dutch-to-English translation for an array of topics and people including but not limited to students, academics, artists and a variety of organizations.

At Amstelring my duties consisted of cleaning; providing general help with chores such as groceries; development and maintenance of stabilizing relationships; awareness of the client’s current mental and physical condition, especially for clients with diseases such as dementia.

I was assigned to construction, implementation as an educator, evaluation of data and adjustment post program for Nourish, a food based wellness program, round 1. In addition I organized meetings, co-operation and organization with low income housing sites, advertising for the nourish program; as well as general donation organization and clerical work for The Giving Tree.

I co-cooperatively managed and maintained a restaurant with 19 other co-workers using the Formal Consensus Decision-making Model. As this job was co-cooperatively managed, it was crucial to be able to perform every service function to fulfill every position in the café. However, we were separated into committees for in depth tasks. I was a member of the financial committee and the risk management committee. Therefore, along with tasks of serving, cooking, baristaing, and cashiering, I participated in the core work that kept the café running. I was one of four members with access to our nightly financial handling; I participated twice in creating a financial budget for the upcoming year; I created and implemented risk management plans in areas such as money handling, kitchen safety, fire safety and so forth; I was the weekly meeting agenda organizer, which is the only position that does not rotate within the Formal Consensus Decision-making Model. I also acquired many skills in communicating and facilitating meetings with large groups.
