Life can change in an instant. One moment you are walking normally and the next moment every bone in your body aches. One day you can run around in the yard with your littles, and the next day you cannot get out of bed. That is a mere glimpse into what it means to be living with a chronic illness. Everyday is uncertain. Everyday is a gift. Invincible, a book created and written by myself and 27 other brave warriors, takes the reader on a journey through the obstacles, anger, joy and triumphs that follow after hearing of a diagnosis. The goal of Invincible? To spread awareness. Why? The answer is quite simple. People see us and say we don't look sick. People judge us when we use our handicap placards. People stare as we struggle to use our walkers. And the list goes on and on. We need to raise awareness.That person you saw running through your neighborhood? They could have a chronic illness. That person standing in front of you at your coffee cafe? They could have a chronic illness. We need to judge less and ask questions more. We need to educate.We, as a society, need to become more empathetic. We don't want your pity. We want you to understand that those living with a chronic illness do their best every single day. And it can be hard. Really hard.
