About Anne Shackleton
I can assess and respond to the careers guidance needs of 'drop in' students from all disciplines. Advise and signpost to appropriate resources/ services. Calmly support any type of enquiry, from wellbeing referral to specialist information query. Career decision making, evaluating options, seeking experience, considering further study are guidance needs I meet. Feedback on applications, CVs, Personal Statements and Interview Coaching are all aspects of my current role. I set up and ran a Wellbeing Project for Newcastle City Council. I grew this from a grant-funded, Headteacher focused programme, to a self-financing project providing support to several departments and two other Local Authorities. I am a collaborative Leader, managing 60 staff, 5 teams and several projects in Northumberland through several structural transitions, from LA Careers Service to Connexions. Business Planning, Quality standards, target setting, monitoring and reporting, Team Leader management, staff recruitment and appraisal, are skillsets I both enjoy and excel in. Education for girls is an interest of mine, and I used my skillset to recruit and manage volunteers for Team Kenya. I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Ndhiwa, working with staff and volunteers supporting women and girls. I am also motivated by the situation of migrants, spending time challenging myself to learn a different perspective and ability range when I volunteered at North of England Refugee Service. Well outside my comfort zone, I adapted and grew in confidence, faced with the realities of the Voluntary Sector. A better street environment and enabling space for people is a campaign I joined during the first Covid Lockdown. I am on a steep learning curve as part of the core team leading the North Tyneside Living Streets campaign. I committed 80 volunteer hours to creating dialogue with over 50 local businesses around reducing traffic and creating more space for people to walk, stay, wheel and relax.
