Owner/Tour Guide/ Wilderness Survival ExpertMagical Adventure Tour May 2014 - PresentGrey County, Niagara EscarpmentThe foundations of The Niagara Escarpment go back to the Paleozoic Era (ancient life)and where the Blue Mountains area now stands was once the bottom of an ancient sea . Rocks at the bottom of the Escarpment belong to the Ordovician period and the rocks which protrude out into the water hold fractured plates of shale-like slabs capturing 455 million year old invertebrate fossils called trilobites and cephalopods. The shells and skeletons of these ancient creatures created limestone and dolostone found on top of the escarpment and is host to ferns, moss and cedar roots, all traveling through time. The cliff-side trees here are estimated to be 4,000 years old and researchers found cedars that ranged from 300 to 700 years old. Glaciers then covered the area until as recently as 12,000 years ago and acted as scraping and gouging tools which left scratches, gouges, and grooves on the exposed bedrock. Erosion then gave way to a labyrinth of crevices and caves that today presents itself in a mystical way. This is your place to discover the ancient world of nature and the present day life that resides within it!
