MMS Consultants is a leading civil engineering and land surveying firm in Iowa City. Specialties include commercial, municipal, schools and residential land development. As of 2016, the firm of about 40 employees had completed nearly 40,000 projects for more than 10,000 clients since its founding in 1975. Marketing role was responsible for overall marketing strategy, proposal writing, brand and reputation management, print and digital advertising, content marketing, public and media relations, business development, community engagement, marketing events and tracking ROI.

Coached reporters, jump-started their muses and edited content. Insisted staff embrace forward-thinking skills; success on that front included noonhour TV appearances to talk about their content and a features staffer built and maintained the newspaper's original Facebook page. Built bridges to other senior managers in newsroom and departments outside news. Advocated for department's needs and prominent display of best features content. Managed staff and sections to budget.During this time, I served on the company's experimental Product Assessment Committee for innovation and ideation processes; and graduated from the Accelerated Development Program, a Gazette Communications leadership program in conjunction with the University of Northern Iowa.
