My husband and I founded the volunteer aerial research and surveillance program of Wings Over Africa with our small plane in 2013. My husband Chuck, is an highly experienced ex- Australian Airforce pilot competent in flying numerous fixerd wing aircraft and helicopters. I am an ex- marketing consultant (Rapp and Collins, Heresy, and Allsorts Habit Creation) who has spent over 35 years in the business, holding positions from Managing Director to Partner, in Sydney, Melbourne and London. I have adapted my skills to be able to handle all the logistics associated with our aerial program including, reporting (photography and GPS location data).Up until 2021 we worked 8 months of the year in Europe and the Middle East, but now that we are financially secure, we have finally made the break to focus on our NGO - Wings Over Africa. We started work in the NE of South Africa in 2013 with our small micro light that we shipped from France. We then were invited by Dr Trevor Jones, to work in Tanzania with the Southern Tanzanian Elephant Program (STEP). We travelled for 8 days by road with our aircraft in the back of a trailer to arrive in Tanzania in the June of 2014. Over the years we have become highly adept at reporting to STEP, Village Scouts and Rangers, via GPS positoning and photography, on any illegal activity such as poaching, livestock invasion and wood cutting, as well as carrying out elephant research. We are proud to have been a part of the Great Elephant Census in 2015 carried out in Africa. However, we are even prouder to be a part of the STEP team (refer www.stzelephants.or.tz)We now have a brand new Savannah ULM, and work 3-4 months per year in the dry season. Another pilot, from Sth Africa, Ferdi Koekomoer, is paid to fly at intervals duing the rest of the year.
