Professional AthleteNew Balance Apr 2005 - Jul 2008Brighton, Ma, UsAfter exhausting her eligibility at the University of Nebraska, where she achieved All-American and Academic All-American status and was named 2004 Student Athlete of the Year, Gaffigan competed professionally for New Balance. At the 2004 Olympic Trials, Gaffigan won the 3000m steeplechase and set a then-American Record. Since the event was not yet included in the Olympics for women, she did not compete at the Games. She and other athletes worked to get the women’s steeplechase added to the Olympics by 2008 and were successful. Gaffigan placed 10th at the 2008 Trials, missing a spot on the team but happy to see the first group of women compete in the event on the Olympic stage.
