Malaysian by nationality, but international at heart. Having lived in 4 different countries before reaching my 2nd decade of life, I have the opportunity to meet people from all backgrounds. I found that though we can be so diverse, at our core there seems to be similar struggles and desires. Human. That’s what drives me to be passionate about psychology. Prior to my undergraduate course, I studied it in the IB degree program, which I worked relentlessly for. However, the beginning of my interest was when I attended a Basic Counseling Course during my teens.I want to contribute towards a future where psychological help is accessible to everyone, regardless of background. I am optimistic that our future will consist of open and available mental health resources that resonate with people. I am here because I want to be a part in that future. I believe in a people-first approach, and that shows through how I care for those that I work with, ready to re-explain a point and look out for those who might be less heard. I would generally prefer to be a team player and mediator. True leadership does not always have to be the face of things or commanding. It is being proactive, hard-working and letting your actions speak. I am grateful to have the opportunity to be an Event Rep for my Hall of Residence, and don’t take lightly the trust that 200+ students have put in my team to organize fun, safe, and holistic events every month. This includes movie nights, discos, outskirt trips and more.One of my biggest pastimes is Drama. I have been acting consistently since I was 13. I tend to be in minor roles, but what I love about it is the camaraderie, not just when we are on-stage but more so backstage. It always consists of long hours, and I find that commitment to be so rewarding when we put on the final piece. On the other hand, I also enjoy going to the gym, and I have been strength training at least weekly for more than half a year. With a healthy balance, it is empowering. Strangely enough, as a hobby I also enjoy waitressing. Serving customers just brings me internal joy, and I have volunteered in two restaurants, in different countries. I’m also drawn to animals and children, having volunteered in three schools and one animal shelter.I value empathy, so I’m always working towards having radical acceptance of myself and an understanding of others.
