Lead coordination and implementation activities for the City of Austin Project Connect Office in collaboration with the Austin Transit Partnership and Captal Metro.

Provide leadership, technical and process advise on the comprehensive revision of the City’s Land Development Code - with an emphasis on the land use and transportation interface.

Lead transportation initiatives and services in the areas of Systems Development, Active Transportation and Street Design, Transportation Engineering and Special Events. Support the department and City of Austin vision and mission through service on the City of Austin executive team.

Management and coordination of local and regional transportation planning, policy, programming and capital project development. Re-created the Long-range Planning Program to create a Systems Development Division to include a diverse portfolio of critical transportation activities including transportation demand management (TDM), data management, policy analysis, strategic capital project development, development review and long-range planning. Manage an operating budget over $1M, multiyear consulting contracts over $2M, and mange and develop multi-million dollar capital projects. Collaborate closely with several department divisions including Transportation Engineering, Active Transportation and Street Design, Arterial Management, Right-of-Way Management, Special Events, Signs and Markings, and the Parking Enterprise. Portfolio of work also requires a close working relationship with the Planning and Zoning Department, as well as with other City departments. Lead and manage a diverse staff of urban planners, data analysts, program coordinators, and engineers. Administrative responsibilities include budget development and the full suite of human resource management. Serve as City of Austin liaison to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's (CAMPO) Policy Board and serve as a member of the CAMPO Technical Advisory Committee. Current major projects within the Division include development of the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan in coordination with the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority High Capacity Transit Project Connect, Corridor Mobility Capital Project Development, the Non-Radioactive Hazardous Materials Route Designation Plan, the City's land development code rewrite "CodeNEXT" mobility section, the Street Impact Fee study and policy development, and the City Council Strategic Plan mobility section. Served as Acting Assistant Director in September 2016.

Senior staff within a unique team that developed programming within the City Manager's office that focused to forge a stronger connection between capital project investments and the implementation of the City's comprehensive plan. Maintained knowledge of urban planning matters facing the City such as mobility and affordability, as well as the City's Capital Improvements Program (CIP) and how it is utilized to carry out City-wide goals and objectives. Led planning processes and procedures to create an award winning Long-Range CIP Strategic Plan. Assisted with monitoring progress of the City's portfolio of bond projects. Coordinated and collaborated inter-departmentally, with other agencies, and the private sector, on matters related to the City's Capital Improvements Program and Strategic Plan. Represented the Capital Planning Office at City Council, government agency board and commission meetings, and community meetings.

Managed urban planning and administrative activities for a division of the City of Austin Public Works Department related to pedestrian/ADA and bicycle mobility (Active Transportation and Street Design). Led planning processes for adoption of a "best practice" Sidewalk Master Plan and led the City of Austin Bicycle Program to be a national model program. Successfully brought a Bike Share system to Austin through a public-private partnership. Served as a technical advisory member of the region's Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO). Supervised a group of innovative bicycle and pedestrian facility designers (EIT's), project managers, and urban planners. Supervised retrofit street design for implementation of multi-modal streets and corridors in compliance with adopted transportation plans and the City's Complete Streets Policy. Prioritized, managed, and sponsored capital improvement projects and associated capital program portfolios. Engaged in intergovernmental relations and activities related to city-wide urban planning matters related to active transportation, with a focus to the implementation of the City's new comprehensive plan, Imagine Austin. Managed multi-modal development review. Managed an approximate $1M operations budget and an approximate $40M capital budget and leveraged an additional approximate $30M in grant and partnership funds.

Over approximately 8 years, progressed through City urban planning positions with increased responsibility and supervisory duties in the fields of land use and transportation. In the first several years I was responsible for active transportation planning and progressed to zoning and subdivision case management, and finally to a Principal Planner position leading the production of comprehensive neighborhood plans. Leadership and management experience in these positions included planning participatory processes, management of urban planners, engineer technicians, and GIS professionals, master plan production, as well as successful management of over 100 zoning cases through City Council approval.

Through a federal grant funded position by the Texas Department of Transportation, researched and implemented traffic safety and injury prevention policy recommendations and programs specific to the UT Austin campus. Conducted campus wide transportation safety needs assessment and developed recommendation to educate the UT Campus audience in areas of transportation safety related to seatbelt use, child safety seats, bicycle and pedestrian safety, and intoxicated driving. Developed and taught an innovative traffic safety course for the UT Police Department. Assisted Program Director with inter-agency and other community collaborations.
