Brightstripe is a C.I.C. with an ambition to increase participation in the Arts, Sports and Physical Activities, we are a social enterprise that currently works across the West Midlands. I lead on learning for all ages in collaboration with many partners in the health, education and creative industries and in various outreach situations. Currently I am focusing on managing our Community Learning commission through Nordic walking and Walking for Health; delivering Employability Skills sessions through the National Youth Agency; and developing our creative learning programmes 'Love your Learning', y.ART and Vacation Creation. Being part of the team behind the organisation of our cultural events we are continuously busy with our annual 9-day h.Art (Herefordshire Art Week) open studio event, the nationally acclaimed Hereford Contemporary staged annually in November and the Arts Markets in Hereford High Town. I am one third of our marketing team fronting up our presence at festivals, Fresher Fairs etc, coordinate our social media, and production of literature.Qualified as Arts Awards Adviser at Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver levels.

Born from a love of micro buildings and a need, with the onset of the recession, Spacescapediversified, creating Morphut Ltd to design and build small smart timber buildings calledMorphuts and MorphPODs. Alongside micro-buildings that are modular and multi-functional,Morphut Ltd also offers landscape design and planning services to enable integration intothe environment. MorphPODs & larger contemporary cabins called Morphuts provide for a multitude of uses such as small homes, fishing lodges, garden rooms, education facilities, extreme sports, studios, camping pods and offices. Currently I am focusing on alternative marketing strategies particularly via social media and creative collaborations with our partners, accommodation business Brandy House Farm. We are embarking and documenting a unique retrofitting project of an existing MorphPOD and designing an off-grid heating system to show that this type of accommodation can morph to a new use. We are designing and building a further 3 showcasing MorphPODs, and have just had planning approved for 3 Morphut cabins.

Spacescape was set up to offer a broad range of integrated and flexible services in botharchitecture & landscape architecture for domestic and commercial sectors. In 2005 we won a national competition for the landscape design of a series of urban spaces within a new multi-use housing/commercial/community development in Brinnington, Stockport. We also delivered two streetscape Liveability projects in Coventry city centre, which included participatory design; feasibilities for Blaenavon World Heritage site; and an Interpretation study for Pil Industrial site.Spacescape recreated lost garden structures & spaces, undertook specialist planting, including the recreation of the lost fernery, and produced a three year design programme for experimental bedding at the Grade 1 listed Dyffryn Gardens, near Cardiff (often featured in Dr. Who!) and now a National Trust destination.We are becoming specialists in rural planning, and had recent successes in reverting planning decisions. We can work to support alternative accommodation providers such as glamping pods to work up planning applications and landscape feasibilities. We enjoy working in collaboration with other architects, landscape architects, garden designers and landscape contractors particularly joining up with businesses in the rural communities. Our current workload includes refurbishment and extension of a Pub, kitchens and private house, with the creation of garden spaces, family garden and car parking; domestic extensions; conversion of a derelict barn to a learning room with lettable accommodation; reconfiguration of existing bed&breakfast and domestic living arrangements; continual adhoc architectural support for a South Shropshire co-operative; planning drawings for a new build partial underground house; scoping planning for a land developer across 3 sites; planning for learning facilities and domestic alterations for an Artist.

Leading project development and bid writing responsive to the learning needs of 0-19 year olds,their carers/teachers and supporting national initiatives. I project managed inspiringcultural/creative practitioners to connect & upskill young people across the curriculum. My role included brokering, supporting schools, arranging CPD, organising press, marketing& events. Successful projects included Moves to Succeed, a behaviour managementprogramme; the RSC Learning Partnership network; setting up and chairing theHerefordshire Network, for teachers & creative practitioners; and y.ART - a collaboration of11-25 year-olds in 10 youth venues across Herefordshire with 8 cultural practitioners.

Spacescape acted as the Policy Officer for the Landscape Institute Wales, sitting on the the Welsh Assembly’s Climate Change Commission Adaptation group and working groups for the Sustainable Design Commission and the Regeneration Skills Collective.

I had responsibility for research, design, specification, contract administration & implementation for a £3.2m Heritage Lottery-funded project to restore a 55-acre Grade 1 listed garden & arboretum to the c.1910 Thomas Mawson design. Site-based throughout.

Project Manager and lead designer for eight Millennium-funded ERDF projects (£2.4m)of urban improvements and new facilities in the former mining valley of Garw. My roleinvolved co-ordinating 3 Environmental Artists, 3 Landscape Architects, an EducationOfficer & an Environmental Youth Worker.; also survey, whole site design and integration ofstreet furniture and artworks designed by local young people. Consultation with the widercommunity was undertaken through ‘planning for real’ sessions. A published ‘Garw GreenGuide’ was developed by design team and published to encourage sympathetic design inthis characteristic valley.

Feasibility studies and environmental assessments, including Public Enquiries eg. Carmarthen By-pass, for highways and development projects. Also urban design, hard and soft detailing, survey analysis and writing and graphics for design guidelines for The Royal Military Canal, Hythe and The Severn Gorge. Part of the team behind a design competition for the Montauaun-Brive Highway, in Southern France.
