About Annie Bao

I help clients learn about and understand their challenges related to human behavior and mental health to simplify the synthesis of customized solutions for preventing and mitigating the adverse impact and effects of identified difficulties. My zone of excellence is in leading collaborative initiatives to catalyze community and culture that prioritize humanity as an essential component to achievement, progress, and longevity. Specializing in mental health, behavioral change, and well-being, I am positioned at the intersection of systems/relationship assessment, human-centered solutions, and anti-racism to scale systems aimed at fostering growth in healthcare, education, and community care. My time and energy are dedicated to creating experiences, spaces, places, and things that are maintained with kindness, compassion, and empathy as fundamental drivers to high performance and excellence. The purpose of my work is to build and cultivate functional ecosystems of wellness by designing and implementing effective mechanisms of care. By facilitating a strategic process for developing equitable, adaptable, & sustainable solutions to attend to human-centered constraints, I strive to contribute meaningfully to advancement and innovation that organizations, businesses, and communities envision achieving wellness. My collaborative approach to work is driven by empathic curiosity and grounded in beliefs & origins in the formal and informal systems of learning & development, narrative relational/systemic change, and inclusive & equitable cultures of care. It is a privilege to witness and engage in supporting others through emerging insight into their core essence of the “self” to develop action-oriented solutions to be and do better whole-heartedly, authentically, and with integrity to ensure a future they deserve. I’m open to considering opportunities to work with others who value and center humanity to achieve progress, success, and excellence. I’m always willing to support and promote any and all thoughts, insights, and projects committed to kind, compassionate, and empathic community care.

Interprogram/Interprofessional Anti-Racism Dialogue And Discourse Series Aug 2020 - Present
In collaboration with leadership members of 4 graduate programs in genetic counseling, we built an offering for GC students from our respective institutions (Columbia, MGH Institute of Health, Northwestern, and Sarah Lawrence). This series was conceived from a vision to create a dedicated space for students to engage in sustained dialogue about race, racism, and anti-racism in the healthcare system, patient care, and provider training. We created a framework grounded in principles of DEI in order to facilitate programming for students to attend to multiple aspects of their development towards becoming anti-racist healthcare providers. In 2021, we received the Audrey Heimler Special Project Award (AHSPA) that included grant funding for a project that “focuses on the future of the genetic counseling profession and the provision of genetic services.” We transformed our work with students to develop and facilitate this series for practicing genetic counselors to develop their understanding of race, racism, and anti-racism in medicine and skills to engage in the difficult conversations required to move together towards a more just healthcare system.
