About Annie Lindsey

By marrying the two areas of design and quantitative data together into her role as Graphic Design Lead & Research Specialist at Learning for Action, Annie has the exciting opportunity to bridge the gap that exists between data and how we visually report out to the field on action-oriented results.     Part time work for the UK’s oldest charity concerned with housing and planning established by Ebenezer Howard in 1899. Examples of work:- Wrote draft and final report for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation on the effects of the Coalition Government’s new combined changes on the abolition of regional spatial strategies, housing policy reform, housing benefit cuts, and cuts to the Comprehensive Spending Review. This report informed a roundtable discussion between influential key players in housing and planning strategy/policy from around the country. A follow-up report was written combining the ideas that came out of the roundtable which was published and launched in Parliament at the House of Commons to inform future government policy.- Consultation response to the Coalition Government’s ‘New Homes Bonus’, a new policy to provide local authorities with the incentive to deliver sustainable development for new homes and businesses in absence of regional spatial strategy housing targets. The response includes alternative methods to the details of the scheme and the rationale for the proposed mechanisms.- Consultation response to the Department of Communities and Local Government regarding the new Community Infrastructure Levy which will help pay for the infrastructure required to serve new development.

    Key member of economic development, redevelopment, and housing consultancy focusing on public sector clientsExamples of work:- ’Evidence Based Housing Scenarios for the Thames Gateway’ - compiled a comprehensive database of over 60,000 major residential development units in priority regeneration area. Extensive consultation process involving local authorities, developers and RSLs. Developed a database of site information (constraints, capacity, tenure mix etc) used to model a range of potential growth scenarios. The result was used to inform negotiation with Central Government during the Comprehensive Spending Review (2010)- ‘Leeds City Region Investment Plan’ – deliverability and impact assessment to support prioritisation of £100m investment program in strategic development projects. Responsible for developing spreadsheet model profiling anticipated housing and employment outputs and private and public sector cash flows- ‘Reflections on the Single Conversation’ - research included workshops and interviews with director and officer level public sector representatives and housing delivery partners. Case studies in each region were prepared to examine examples of good practice and identify challenges and barriers facing those implementing the process. The report has shaped the future implementation of the national housing investment program- ‘Worcester City Centre Visioning Master Plan’ – benchmarking the city’s performance in key economic and social indicators against four comparator cities. Working with a range of statistical datasets, analyzing trends and presenting information through graphs and tables- ‘2012 Olympics – Newham Community Impact Study’ - analyzing all initiatives and programs currently taking place in local authority area directly linked to the Olympics. A ‘theory of change’ model was created to assess each initiative/program to understand how Newham Council could successfully tailor each to achieve a lasting Olympic legacy

    - Devised a study methodology and survey questionnaire. Field survey analyzing several hundred individual buildings Western South of Market Area by applying the study methodology.- Created the methodology’s multiple databases and interpreted the data with an element rating system and GIS maps.- Wrote a comprehensive report and provided a series of presentations to the Western SoMa Citizen’s Planning Task Force. The results were used to change the Area Plan as well as the Eastern Neighborhoods Zoning which dictate both future housing and light industrial growth within the district and East San Francisco.
