Supported by the National Science Foundation (#2044858), I work collaboratively with Dr. Jennifer M. Blaney (PI, Assistant Professor of Higher Education at Northern Arizona University) and Dr. David F. Feldon (Co-PI, Professor, Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences at Utah State University) to conduct a mixed-methods examination of pathways from community colleges to Ph.D. programs in computing fields. Currently, I am leading our efforts in survey development.Utilizing a sample of community college transfer students in computing majors across five research universities, we are empirically testing the efficacy of an intervention to transfer orientation and academic advising developed to foster graduate school intentions. Additionally, we are employing longitudinal surveys and interviews to explore other factors that shape key outcomes for upward transfer computing students, focusing on implications for how to advance equity and broaden access to computing graduate programs.
