I investigated pyrolysis of various blended feedstocks for positive synergy of bio-oil production under the guidance of a PhD student at Missouri S&T. I assisted with preparing, running, and cleaning lab-scale pyrolysis reactor. I also completed analysis of char samples using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis.

My primary project was analyzing dust collector flow data to identify process and infrastructure improvements that would increase cement production rates, dust collector efficiency, and plant cleanliness. I also created a form to track positions of whizzer blades which helps inform decisions about whizzer blade locations to increase separator efficiency and ensure equipment longevity. I had the opportunity to complete and present theoretical calculations for a raw material substitution that would save up to $2.9 million annually. I performed particle size distributions for finish mill grind samples to ensure equipment was running as desired and identify areas for improvement.
