Occupational Therapy Placement
This 10 week occupational therapy placement provided me with valuable experience within an in-patient orthopaedic rehabilitation setting. I was able to independently complete a range of assessments and formulate intervention plans for a large caseload, while also working amongst a multidisciplinary team in working towards discharge planning for patients.
Retail Assistant
My casual retail employment during my University studies has allowed me to develop a range of skills including excellent customer service, communication, organisation, and professionalism. This employment has allowed me to demonstrate loyalty and flexibility to a workplace.
Occupational Therapy Community Placement: Project Manager
Within this community based placement I was given the opportunity to co-manage a project with a focus on developing life skills among at-risk youth aged 12-24 on the Southern Mornington Peninsula. My role as a project manager involved researching, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating information in order to create a sustainable healthy eating cookbook for youth to develop essential skills in meal preparation and overall occupational engagement. Qualitative and quantitative research methodology, such as a semi-structured interview and survey, were used in order to prepare project delivery and ensure sustainability and engagement. This experience provided me with an understanding of ethical research, project management, and occupational therapy service provision within community practice.
Occupational Therapy Paediatric Placement
This paediatric OT placement provided me the opportunity to hone new skills in creative evidence based practice. Intervention through supported play based activities opened my eyes to the world of Occupational Therapy, and it’s short and long term benefits of intervention planning. I was able to witness clients aged 4-5 years with a range of paediatric conditions improve their development in early years to ensure overall school readiness, using assessments such as the Movement ABC-2 and Sensory Profiles.
