Researching the connection between forest health and indigenous food sovereignty, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile's UC Centro de Desarrollo Local

Coordinated school garden programs on the elementary campuses of Oakland Unified, San Francisco Unified, and Ravenswood school districts. Worked with teachers to improve educational course delivery, expand school-lunch offerings, and support the health and wellness departments to expand the garden's campus-wide impact.

After three years of managing various farms across campus, Annika led the design and development of Berkeley Student Farms, an umbrella coalition that links all eight student-run gardens. Annika's work balances daily operations, educational programming, and long-term development to grow the accessibility and impact of BSF.• Managed daily farm operations• Coordinated with 150+ team of volunteers, and 8 staff members• Hired, trained, and oversaw new staff members• Organized weekly donations to the Basic Needs Center Food Pantry• Instructed a semester-long 100+ student course called "Agroecology in Action• Wrote $5,000 grant to create a campus seed library• Co-wrote $1.2 million grant to fund student and full-time staff as well as infrastructural improvement across eight campus departments• Built partnerships across campus and the city with groups including the Sogorea Te' Land Trust, UC Cooperative Extension, Berkeley Unified School District & others

Linking city planning, public policy, and agroecology Annika led research to identify barriers and co-design solutions to accessing and producing urban agriculture products with community members across the Bay Area. Building off her work, Annika developed a thesis to create a community-informed model for urban agriculture education at UC Berkeley. Annika's research takes a community-based participatory approach and links quantitative methods (surveys, interviews, participatory mapping) to produce qualitative results–leveraging GIS, Atlas.Ti coding, and statistical analysis–to capture the needs of the community.

Worked with Indigenous Quechuan communities in the Sacred Valley, to better understand how climate change is impacting traditional ecological knowledge. The research project relied on informal interviews (in Spanish and Quechuan), and participatory observation, and included a week-long expedition into the Ausangate mountains.

Gaining hands-on experience amidst the quarrels of Zoom learning, Annika apprenticed at a diversified vegetable and seed farm. Annika tended to daily farm operations, organized and coordinated farmer's market sales, and assisted with long-term research developing regionally adapted, climate-resilient crop varieties for communities across the Rocky Mountains.

Annika worked at a 15 acre mixed vegetable-livestock operation where she tended to daily vegetable production, chickens (hens), hogs, and an honors system farmstand.

As the garden coordinator, Annika oversaw the management and educational programming of two campus gardens.

Annika first joined the HADSA team working to establish and caretake for the Browns Herbal Garden where she worked with various community stakeholders to develop an accessible and culturally relevant herbal garden for the UC Berkeley community.

As a field technician and lab assistant, Annika gathered and processed samples for a long-term research project studying the effects of compost on carbon sequestration in Rangelands.
