I am deeply driven by curiosity and learn quickly with great joy. I want to understand how things work and how they might be improved. I’m pursuing a career as a surgeon scientist, being particularly inspired by solid organ transplantation.As a recent graduate, I have over two years of basic science lab experience and am familiar with most standard lab methods, including mouse models. Within both the genetics lab at RWTH Aachen and the center for cerebrovascular research at UCSF, I have earned a reputation for working independently, having established and improved a number of protocols (e.g., immunofluorescence staining and genotyping).In addition to my exposure to multiple research environments, I’ve gained more than a year of clinical experience, assisted over 100 surgeries, and carried out minor procedures under supervision (e.g., evacuation of a subdural hematoma). I’ve successfully taught other med students how to perform sutures and have, several times, been trusted to close the surgical wound on my own. My clinical experience has been further extended by working shifts in the emergency department for three years, including time on the interdisciplinary internal medicine ward during the COVID-19 pandemic.During my practical year in the Dept. for General, Visceral, and Transplant Surgery in Aachen, I was able to assist in several transplantations and multiorgan retrievals and found it deeply rewarding.During my journey through med school, I have joined many initiatives and pursued science projects and internships. I have founded a student initiative to promote female role models in medical science, inspiring hundreds of female med students to pursue a scientific career.Pushing the boundaries of what is known and possible is my greatest career goal. I am deeply interested in transplant surgery and would love to contribute to the scientific body of knowledge about it.Open to work from January 2025 and looking for a post doc position to do meaningful work in a group that lets me use my signature strengths and values my contributions and my improvement suggestions.
