Grievance CaseworkerThe Student Advocate'S Office Feb 2024 - PresentBerkeley, California, United StatesThe Student Advocate’s Office (SAO) is an executive, non-partisan office of the ASUC. SAO offers free, confidential casework services and resources to any student(s) navigating issues with the University, including academic, conduct, financial aid, and grievance concerns. All support is centered around students and aims for an equity-based approach. In addition to the casework services provided by our office, SAO has a strong commitment to enacting policy changes for the benefit of students. These policy initiatives can be enacted at a university-wide level or through changing SAO’s internal practices. The Grievance Division within SAO supports students seeking complaint resolution—whether informal or formal. Common cases include assisting students facing denial of disability accommodations, discrimination, harassment, or out-of-pocket healthcare costs. The Grievance Division also supports survivors of sexual violence and takes on cases that beyond the scope of other divisions, including housing, consent education, healthcare, and medical withdrawal. Grievance policy focuses on concerns such as disability accommodation process, the sexual violence adjudication process, student withdrawal and retention process, and its caseworkers work to revise these processes, promote equity in the student experience, and codify "student-centered best practices" for departments and administration across the University. -
